Audacity of Hope - short assessment

When reading through numerous chapters of Obama's latest book "Audacity of Hope" I found his writing style and initial delivery to his audience to be somewhat of a friendly and laid back nature. Rather than being quite autocratic and domineering in order to get his points across he in many ways wishes to portray to the audience his humble and gentle side when going about his daily life as a politician. In particular, when reading chapters such as Faith and Race he seems to present a two-sided story to any arguement, therefore portraying in many ways an ideal leader with which listens to his supporters. On the contrary to this view, chapter 1 (Republicans and Democrats) is where Obama alternatively tries to get his own views across relating to his policies of which, I in particular, found quite difficult to get the hang of, purely because he seemed to address a whole host of how he wants areas of the American government to change without focussing on a few and going into detail. I found there to be too many areas of the American life that he wanted to change and therefore couldnt all be achieved immediately, which we may suggest gives false hope to his supporters. Therefore in tracking Obama's first opening weeks as President I've found it of great importance to look at the Politifact website and one particular section entitled "The Obameter: Tracking Obama's Campaign Promises". Not only does this give an over-view of the 514 promises Obama has said will become reality but also tracks their progress on an easy to read meter. So far, he is stated as keeping 27 promises such as to "Expand loan programmes for small businesses" however is seen to have broken 6 of his promises. From this wesbite we can therefore suggest that his first few weeks in office have in fact been monitored closley to ensure validity and ensure that he keeps to his word. We may also suggest, as mentioned in the lecture, that Obama initially became more popular for his personal dealings and his personality rather than purley for his policies and is therefore considered to be more of a celebrity figure. Consequently, I feel that Obama's first opening weeks in office will have proved to be of great difficulty to Obama in meeting his supporters expectations, in particular with websites such as Politifact of which will be watching his every step to determine whether his Presidency will be a success or failure in weeks to come.
